Kia Ward

Hello everyone and welcome to my site. I am a 25 year old textile and surface designer based in Orange County, New York. I am a recent Fashion Institute of Technology Alumna with a Bachelors Degree in Textile and Surface Design and a Minor in African/Africana Studies. Previously, I attended SUNY Ulster Community College where I received an Associates Degree in Fashion Design. I am a warm hearted, helpful, caring and extroverted person. I love to meet new people and travel the world.

My African American heritage constantly influences my designs. I enjoy experimenting with color and texture in order to create new and innovative artwork.

Inspired by my grandmother and her love for sending handwritten letters. I have always been drawn to textural elements and searching for new ways to bring those elements into my work. I use items that surround me like cooking utensils and hair accessories to create a variety of textures. I love using colors pulled from the earth such as deep browns and rustic reds because they allow me to feel deeply rooted in my culture. ​
